My Coast App – keeping you safe at the beach this summer

Holidaying in Cornwall this year? You need to download this app! My Coast is a work in progress by one of our lovely leisure members, Jo Murray. After a few near-misses whilst exploring the coast like tide cut offs, seasonal dog bans and the kids not able to enjoy an ice cream because the café was closed, she set out to create an app that delivers live information for beach users – to take the luck out of having an amazing day on the coast!

The app will provide real time information like how many people are on the beach, if there’s a dog poo bin nearby, and what facilities are operating, but crucially it will also provide essential safety information like water and weather conditions, tide times, RNLI advice and emergency push notifications.

It will give updates on individual locations along the coastline, but it will also help you plan your day around the activities you’d like to do. For example, if you want to go for a dog walk, it will offer suggestions based on distance and any seasonal dog bans that might be in place.
This app is currently in the development stages and a Crowdfunder campaign has been set up to raise much needed funds and sponsorship to take the app to the next level.
