How to keep little ones entertained on long car journeys and arrive at the other end with your sanity in tact…
Maximum entertainment for your kids definitely equals minimum stress for you. We all know that when those adorable little monkeys aren’t screaming or wriggling around in the backseat, the whole journey runs a million times more smoothly and you arrive at the other end with your sanity still in tact.
You could pick your favourite road tripping tunes, turn up the volume and ignore the chaos or, you could read these top tips on how to keep the kids entertained for the entire journey, head for the A30 and begin your summer of fun at Atlantic Reach….
1. The Atlantic Reach Kids Travel Kit!
If it’s peace and quiet you’re after, then look no further…We’ve created the holy grail of car journey entertainment with our Atlantic Reach Kids Travel Kit!
Featuring family classics such as ‘I Spy’ with a colourful alphabet to keep young minds occupied from A-Z, a word search which lets little ones unscramble all the different modes of transport they might spot on the journey and a special Pirate Pete colouring in page to let them get creative with their crayons, you won’t hear a peep from the backseat. Download it for free here!
2. Who doesn’t love Car-eoke?
Nothing says road trip like a sing-song, so grab a mixture of your fave family CD’s and take it in turns singing your heart out to Disney/ACDC.
You say four-hour car journey, we say four-hour family concert!
3. There’s nothing like a good story
Long journeys are the perfect place for little ones to settle back, snuggle down and lose themselves in a good book, a long movie or their favourite album. Many a story and song have been devoured on a long-distance drive, and even better if the material is educational!
Why not download an audio book onto your iPad for them to plug themselves into, or a beautifully illustrated children’s book on Cornish folklore?
4. I went to the shops and I bought…
Test your brain power with this super simple, alphabetical memory game. It’s perfect for family road trips as there’s no minimum or maximum amount of players, barely any rules to follow and the game essentially leads itself!
Each player must begin their go with “I went to the shops today and I bought…” The first person must say something beginning with ‘A’ and then the rest of the answers follow all the way through the alphabet until Z (or until someone gets completely lost!) Each time you add on another purchase, the next person has to remember the previous purchases before they can add another. Why not theme your game around your trip with holiday related items? I went to the shops today and I bought arm bands, a beach ball and clotted cream!
5. Sleeping Lions!
What’s that we hear? That beautiful sound is the sound of silence because we’re playing Sleeping Lions, the game invented just in the nick of time to save all tired parents from reaching the end of their patience.
Ready, steady…and SLEEP. The rules are very simple; the first person to move or make any noise loses and the winner gets a very special prize. FYI, this game works even better if you’re travelling at night – kids might even nod off by accident!
