Extremely fun things you have to try in Cornwall…if you dare
Stunning white sand beaches, beautiful scenery and some of the UK’s best family attractions are all the things you’d expect to discover on a family trip to Cornwall, but there are lots of more extreme ways to explore this beautiful part of the world…if you dare.
Here’s our pick of the best outdoor activities Cornwall has to offer and ratings for how ‘extreme’ they are. Whether it’s a more mellow, family experience or a heart-racing adventure to get the adrenaline going, Cornwall is where you’ll find it.
This county is home to some of the best surf breaks in the UK, so pull your wetsuit on and learn to hang ten with the pros.
Extreme level: 5/10. If you’re just starting out, you’ll be pushed into cruisey 1-2 foot waves on a comfy swell board and instructors will hold on to you when the bigger sets come through. Lots of fun for everyone!
Being strapped into a giant, inflatable ball and rolling head over heels (literally) down a slope? Sign us up! Zorbing might have your head spinning but we guarantee you’ll be laughing from start to finish.
Extreme level: 6/10. You might be hurtling down a hill but the ball itself is pretty squishy and you’re strapped in opposite someone else, so it’s more fun factor than fear factor.
Swimming, climbing, scrambling over rocks, jumping into deep seas, exploring, caving and lots more across wild Cornish oceans, coasteering definitely isn’t for the faint hearted but you will discover Cornwall from a whole new perspective.
Extreme level: 8/10. The concept might seem a little daunting at first if you’re not used to the ocean, but follow your guide and you’ll be fine. It’s a great adventure and there are always routes so the whole family can get involved.
This is the world’s fastest growing water sport and it’s easy to see why. Fun and exciting yet simple enough for even the youngest in the family to get involved, once you’re up you’ll be cruising around like a pro.
Extreme level: 3/10. On a calm day, paddleboarding is more day-dreamy than daredevil. If you start to get really confident, you’ll even be able to take your phone with you and get those all important shots for your Instagram story (I mean, did it even happen if it’s not on Insta?!)
A rugged landscape complete with granite outcrops and more cliff face than you could shake your crampons at means abseiling in Cornwall is one of the most popular rock-based outdoor pursuits – but maybe give it a miss if you’ve got a fear of heights.
Extreme level: 7/10. The rocky edges of the Cornish coastline provide the perfect abseiling challenge, but make sure you hang onto your own rope otherwise you’ll hurtle towards the bottom of the cliff faster than you can yell ‘’I shouldn’t have looked down!”
With lots of different options from scenic, countryside glides to full on off roading through the dirt, there’s definitely a thrill to Segway-ing in Cornwall!
Extreme level: 5/10. You’re equipped with helmets and knee pads and once you get the hang of it you’ll be confidently whizzing around with the wind in your hair. Definitely a fun day out for the whole family.
The longest zip wire in England lives at The Eden Project, where you can hurtle from one side of the quarry to the other, over the world famous biomes and people far, far below.
Extreme level: 9/10. Flying like superman over this massive clay pit definitely takes some guts!
It’s not just for the likes of the rich and the famous – there are lots of companies that will have you soaring through Cornish waters without breaking the bank. You’ll blast through the surf, explore the rugged coastline and you might even spot a few dolphins along the way!
Extreme level: 8/10. If it’s an adrenaline rush you’re after then look no further – this is (probably) the most adventurous way to explore the shore!
Our helpful reception team can give you more details on the wheres and whens of the above when you check in. Which activity will you try first?!
