Christmas Holidays in Cornwall – the best bits to see and do this festive season
You might think that Cornwall is only worth visiting in the summer, but there are so many hidden gems to see here that it really is the place to be all year round! Christmas holidays in The Duchy are magical; think deserted beaches, stormy seas and sheltering from the elements in warm, cosy pubs adorned with twinkly lights.
It doesn’t get much better than spending the festive season with loved ones in Cornwall, and we’re in the perfect location to explore all it has to offer. We’ve put together a list of the ultimate festive activities to make your Yuletide holiday here even more special.
Meet Father Christmas
Your little ones will be able to meet the main man throughout December. That’s right – the REAL Father Christmas is taking some time out of his busy gifting schedule to come and hang out with us at Atlantic Reach.
Santa and his very special helper will be here on the 3rd, 10th and 17th of December from 2-4pm. Every child will receive a special gift and a letter and will be able to take a photo memento away with them. Only £4 each, ask at reception for more details.
Dance at a Christmas party
With festive food and drink, live music and a disco all under one roof, we’ve made organising your Christmas party super easy this year.
They’re being held on 2nd, 9th and 16th of December but spaces are filling up fast! Call a member of our team to get your Christmas crew booked in on 01726 860775.
Walk on deserted, windswept beaches
Wrap up warm, put your wellies on and hit the beach. Watch the wild waves crash onto the shore, go beach combing and make a sand snowman with the kids…It’s the perfect way to work up an appetite before indulging in a Cornish pasty or a cream tea to keep you warm.
Go late night shopping
Not just for last minute shopping, Truro is filled with festive lights, delicious smells from local food stalls and craft stalls to peruse at your leisure every Wednesday evening throughout December.
Step into Christmas past
The National trust know how to do Christmas and there are a whole host of quintessentially Cornish properties to explore over the festive period. Discover the origins of Christmas traditions in the warm, atmospheric house of Lanhydrock before wandering around their beautifully decorated gardens. Enjoy a cup of festive cheer with a hot mulled wine as you stroll around Trellisick, adorned with Christmas finery, stunning flowers & twinkling lights. Marvel at the enormous dried flower Christmas garland hanging in Cotehele‘s great hall, made up of around 30,000 individually hand placed flowers. There’s festive cheer everywhere you go at this time of year.
Find magic at the woods
Enter another world as you wonder through the atmospheric surroundings of Tehidy Woods with Rogue Theatre. Let the faeries and woodland spirits lead the way with stories and songs. Follow the wandering path and meet Old Man Winter who will weave a tale and reveal the path to your fantastical destination, an enchanted celebration and a wondrous festivity of wintry marvels. It’s a truly magical experience from the moment you arrive. They hold three perfomances per day at 1pm, 4pm and 6.30pm on various dates throughout from 9th-30th of December. Just make sure you dress up warm!
Swim on Boxing Day
Brave the chilly sea in Charlestown for this well attended harbour swim in aid of local charities. Fancy dress is optional. It’s not for the faint hearted but it’s definitely lots of fun!
See a Panto
He’s behind you…! Book to see ‘Sleeping Beauty’ at the Hall for Cornwall. This annual panto promises to be full of magic, romance, songs and laughter, with a very special sprinkle of Cornish pixie dust on this classic tale. It runs from 5th-31st December – book early to avoid disappointment!
